Nike Global Challenge: Illinois Prospects

A look at two of Illinois' top targets who performed well on Day 1 at the Nike Global Challenge

The 2014 Nike Global Challenge kicked off on Wednesday night at Whitney Young High School. This event features the best of the best prospects from around the nation and the globe, including several key Illini targets.

Two prospect Illinois is recruiting were on display on opening night in 2015 point guard Jalen Brunson and 2016 center Marques Bolden. Here's a closer look at how they performed:

PG Jalen Brunson

2015 - Lincolnshire (IL) Stevenson

Brunson was his usual steady self on night one for his USA Midwest team leading them to a victory. The crafty and high IQ point guard does a great job of getting everyone involved especially when he has elite options to pass the rock to.

He had several slick drives in the lane where he kicked to open shooters. He got going scoring wise in the second half beginning with a three followed by a nice stop and pop pull up jumper. All night Brunson was in control of his team as he racked up 11 points (4-9 FG) (3-5 3PT), 5 assists, and 3 rebounds.

C Marques Bolden

2016 - DeSoto (TX) DeSoto High

Bolden, who is listed at 6’11” 204 pounds was a force on the block. He came out aggressive and was physical on the interior. Bolden had several and-1’s and went right through his man to convert. With his physical body he can easily score through contact.

The rising junior is a sound post scorer, even displaying a drop step which he finished. Bolden could improve by becoming more consistent at the charity stripe. Defensively he is good as a shot blocker coming from the weak side. Bolden, who holds an offer from Illinois, finished with 13 points in the win, and while his defensive presence may not show up on the stat sheet, he had a big impact on the game.
