Tickets go on sale to the general public this Thursday, Aug. 21, at 9 a.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.fightingillini.com
or through the
UI Athletics Ticket Office by phone (217-333-3470 or 1-866-ILLINI-1) or in
person at the Assembly Hall North Box Office. Tickets are $15 each.
Many former Fighting Illini greats have committed to the event, led by NBA star
Deron Williams, who is currently in Beijing for the Summer Olympics where he
hopes to help lead Team USA to a gold medal. A Night of Legends will be a
reunion for the 2005 Illini squad that captured unprecedented national attention
en route to an appearance in the NCAA Championship game. NBA players Dee Brown
and Luther Head will be back in The Hall while James Augustine and Roger Powell
also plan to attend.
In addition to the 2005 squad, another Illini team that advanced to the Final
Four will be on hand that evening. Members of the popular 1989 Flying Illini who
have confirmed their attendance include Kendall Gill, Kenny Battle, and Stephen
Bardo. Other greats who plan to attend include NBA veteran Brian Cook, Frank Williams, Sergio McClain, Marcus Griffin, Victor Chukwudebe, Kiwane Garris and
Jerry Hester.
In addition to the alumni game, Illinois is honoring the most decorated
basketball players in school history by hanging jerseys from the rafters of the
Assembly Hall. The 20 men's jerseys will be unveiled for the first time at this
event. The University has already announced that the jerseys of Deron Williams,
Dee Brown, Luther Head, Ray Woods, Chuck Carney, Bill Hapac, Dike Eddleman and
Walt Kirk are among this group. The additional names will be announced leading
up to A Night of Legends.
"This is going to be a great night celebrating the proud history of Fighting
Illini basketball," Illinois head coach Bruce Weber said. "I know the players
are excited about it because they've been calling the office asking about who
else is coming back and trying to help influence how the rosters will be
divided. They are looking forward to putting on that Illinois jersey one more
time and stepping back onto the Assembly Hall court. It will be just as exciting
for the players to be out there in front the fans as it will be for our loyal
fans to see their favorites wearing the Orange and Blue once again. It also will
be special to see the unveiling of the honored jerseys, an event that will
showcase the storied tradition of this program."
