February 12, 2007 Smith drove his car into a tree on South First Street in Champaign, which injured his teammate Brian Carlwell, who was sent to the hospital.
On July 25th Smith was at a local establishment when the police were called there for another incident, but knew Smith and could smell alcohol on his breath. He refused to take a breathalyzer test, but did admit to them he had been drinking.
Smith is no longer a member of the Illinois basketball team. His current plans are to attend Southern Indiana University at the start of second semester.
