Head, the former Illini All-American guard
and current Houston Rocket, is one of 10 players named to the 2008 USA
Basketball Men's Select Team that has been chosen to ready the USA Senior
National Team for the Beijing Summer Olympics. Joining Head on the USA Select
Team are LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Al Horford, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Martin, O.J. Mayo, Derrick Rose and Rodney Stuckey.
The Select squad begins training in Las Vegas on July 20 and will scrimmage
against the USA Senior National Team from July 21-24. Williams and his U.S.
teammates conclude training in Las Vegas on July 25, facing the Canadian
National Team in the State Farm USA Basketball Challenge. Prior to arriving in
Beijing on Aug. 6, the U.S. will play four games between July 31-Aug. 5 that are
part of the USA Basketball International Challenge in Macao and Shanghai. The
Olympics are scheduled for Aug. 10-24.
