Ron Zook - we're all wondering if you ever sleep or take a day off. It appears not. After beating one of the top football programs in the country this past weekend (Penn State Lions, 27-20, at Memorial Stadium) Zook could have taken the advice he gave his team: enjoy it for twenty-four hours and let's get back to work. But Zook was entertaining Reggie Ellis, a four-star DT here at Scout.com, after the win on Saturday.
"The visit went really well. Coach Zook is a very loyal and honest man. He's one of the most down to earth people I have ever met in my life. He's going to do great things at Illinois. He took me to his house and we talked and he said a lot of nice and personal things to me that a lot of coaches just don't do," said Ellis.
"I still have another visit to make to Alabama October 20th, and I will take that visit but I feel right now Illinois has just as good a shot as anyone. I like what I saw this weekend. The Penn State game was a big win for them," Ellis added.
Ellis is really looking for a program that wants to win and a coaching staff that not only knows the game but cares about their players. "The atmosphere among the players and coaches was great, but also the fans at the football game were having a good time. There're good things going on there," said Ellis.
Once Reggie makes his visit to Alabama, we here at InsideIllini.com hope to learn more from him as he decides on his college future.
Scout.com Player Evaluation: Ellis has exceptional feet and is very athletic, he is explosive off the snap. He needs to add some weight and get physically stronger, but the athleticism is there. He has fast hands and uses them well to fight off bigger, stronger blockers. Keeps a low pad level and uses leverage. Moves very well laterally, covers a lot of ground and is solid in pursuit.
Biography: As a junior, Ellis notched 48 tackles, sacked the quarterback seven times and recovered a fumble on his way to being was named All-DC AA and first-team All-District.
Ellis is a 2008 potential recruit.
