SG Matthew Humphrey: Q & A

Matthew Humphrey

Matthew Humphrey from Hale Franciscan (Chicago, IL) takes the time to go one-on-one with InsideIllini.com. Humphrey talks about his offers and what two schools will make his final two in the end. Get inside, Illini fans.

InsideIllini.com has spoken with Matthew Humphrey a number of times over the year and each time (until last night) there was no offer on the table from Illinois. What has changed for this slick, shooting guard? A great spring and a good start to the summer. So now, according to Humphrey, Illinois has offered. Humphrey is a member of the Class of 2008 and ranked here at Scout.com as the nation's 13th best shooting guard at 6-5 and a four-star recruit. Here's what Scout.com has to say about Humphrey: Talented wing player emerged nationally as a rising junior. Has an outstanding perimeter stroke and is a confident player from behind the arc. Will run some point on occasion. Needs to continue strengthening his body; excellent study.

Kedric:
Have you made a visit to Michigan? I know they will be a player in your recruitment.

Matthew:
No, I haven't, but they have offered me a scholarship to play for them; but yes, Illinois has too. I have been to Illinois before with my school team for a shootout. It was alright. I've also been down there for Midnight Madness.

Kedric:
How long ago did Illinois put the offer on the table for you? I know at one time you really talked highly of the Illini.

Matthew:
It's been about a month now. Coach Weber was the one to offer it to me. I mean, I like them but I haven't narrowed my list down yet. I would like to go over the schools I like with a list for my family, but I'm pretty sure Michigan and Illinois will always make the cut though.

Kedric:
Matt, a lot of athletes like to stay close to home so their families can see them play. Will that have any impact on your decision for picking a college?

Matthew:
No, not at all. My family will be able to come see me play regardless of where I go. I mean, Illinois is nice; my dad and mom went there so it's a nice school.

Kedric:
Is there anything you like about Illinois or anything that separates it from other schools?

Matthew:
It's a great school. They have done well over the years and Coach Weber has done a great job with them. I'm sure I'll make a few more visits.

Recently Humphrey told GoBlueWolverine.com (Sam Webb) that he plans to make a decision on what college he plans on attending right before his season starts.
