Illinois' Meet"N"Greet Reaches Capacity

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois football coach Ron Zook and a number of other Fighting Illini coaches are headed to Chicago for a Meet ‘n' Greet with fans on Thursday, May 10. The Chicago Fighting Illini Meet ‘n' Greet, which required pre-registration, has been filled to the 500-person capacity.

Zook will be joined by men's basketball assistant coach Tracy Webster, soccer head coach Janet Rayfield, and volleyball head coach Don Hardin. The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Stadium Club area of US Cellular Field.

"We have a tremendous lineup in place for our fans in the Chicagoland area," said Chris Hanna, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sales and Marketing. "We look forward to a great event in a tremendous venue."

Zook continues to make frequent visits to Chicago. Among the dozens of trips he makes to Chicago each year, he added the first Chicago Spring Game in 30 years and is part of the first organized Fighting Illini tour of Illinois in five years. He will return for more public events including Illini Day at Wrigley Field in June and an alumni gold outing in July among in addition to numerous unpublicized visits.

"Our athletic department places tremendous value on our relationship with the Windy City," Hanna said. "We will continue to explore opportunities to build our ties in Chicago and throughout the state of Illinois in support of our tagline ‘Illinois: It's Where We Live. It's Who We Cheer.' We're the name of state school and we will continue to make that statewide connection as strong as possible."

Fans will have an opportunity to hear each coach speak, collect autographs, and take photos. The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics hopes to expand its coverage of the state with a larger tour in future years. Photo galleries of the US Cellular Field event, which kicks off the 2007 Fighting Illini Meet ‘n' Greet Tour, as well as all successive tour stops will be posted online at fightingillini.com in the days that follow each event.
