Illinois junior forward Brian Randle underwent surgery this morning to repair a torn muscle in his groin/abdominal area. Randle had been experiencing pain in the same area where he had surgery on Nov. 17.

Randle returned to Philadelphia’s Hahnemann University Hospital yesterday and after an examination and consultation with Dr. William Meyers, it was decided that Randle would have surgery today to repair an additional tear.

Randle, along with his parents and Director of Sports Medicine Al Martindale, will return to Champaign on Saturday. He will be out indefinitely while the University’s medical staff monitors his recovery.

“Brian showed a lot of courage playing through pain at the end of the season,” Head Coach Bruce Weber said. “We’re disappointed for him and understand his frustration in having to deal with another injury. But we will remain positive and offer all of our support during his rehabilitation so that Brian can enjoy an injury-free senior year.”
