Ron Zook may be the most popular football coach in America right now. Everyone from coast to coast is talking about the great recruiting job he’s doing at Illinois this year. Read here for more on Zook and Illini recruiting.

Each year we expect teams like Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State and LSU to have the top 10 recruiting class and the Fighting Illini to check in at their usual location 25-35, but hold on my friends. Head Coach Ron Zook and his Illini check in at #7 here at Scout.com and he’s not finished, they have 18 commitments but looking to add more.

The past two days if I had just one dollar for every person that’s asked me how Zook is doing this; I could retire today and never think of working again.

The most recent player to verbal was five-star defensive end Martez Wilson a Chicago, Illinois native that ranks 2nd in the nation as a DE only behind USC Everson Griffen. Wilson is 6-4 with 4.5 speed here’s what Scout.com has to say about Wilson who picked Illinois over OSU, Michigan, Dotre Dame, USC and Michigan: Wilson is cat-quick off the line and has very good quickness of the edge. He can speed rush right by you or use his natural power. Wilson can get after the quarterback and stop the run. He's terrific in pursuit because he has a wealth of speed and he also moves well down the line of scrimmage. Wilson has the frame to add a lot of weight. He needs to use his hands more and learn technique but that should come in time at the next level.

With all the hype surrounding the football program right now it’s safe to say Illini fans I really don’t think Captain Zook is finished. InsideIllini.com will keep close tabs on other high profile recruits that Zook is trying to reel in.
