Pilcher Comments on Commitment

DE Doug Pilcher Update

Defensive end, Doug Pilcher, had a monster 2004 season. Pilcher committed to Illinois before the season and is currently on his official visit in Champaign. Pilcher talks about his commitment and what he thinks of new Illini coach, Ron Zook.

"I'm still committed to Illinois," Doug Pilcher.

"I had a few phone calls after (Ron) Turner was fired but I'm sticking with Illinois.

"Illinois has always been my dream school. My mom and dad both went to Illinois and so did my brothers.

"I'll be on my (Illinois) official visit this weekend. Coach (Tommy) Thigpen called me to let me know that my offer is still on the table.

"I'm excited to meet coach Zook. He sounds like just the kind of coach I want to play for. Nothing is going to be given. Everything is earned. I like it that way."

Pilcher put up all-state numbers but the media didn't see it that way. He was named 2nd team all-state by both Chicago newspapers.

All Pilcher did in 2004 was make 115 tackles, 21 tackles were for loss and he ended the season with 18 sacks.

Pilcher told Scout.com that he chose Illinois over Northwestern and Wisconsin.
