Calvin Brock Decides to Red Shirt

Posted Nov 6, 2004

The big news coming out of Illinois' 78-58 victory over SIUE was not the twenty point win, it was that freshman Calvin Brock decided to red shirt.

Illinois Head Coach Bruce Weber left the decision up to both Calvin and fellow freshman Shaun Pruitt as to whether or not they would red shirt. Calvin made the decision to red shirt during the game against SIUE, despite stating earlier in the night that he was going to play this season.

"It's a very mature decision on his part," Weber told the Chicago Tribune after the team's 78-58 victory. "We have some of the best guards in the country. His minutes would be limited, but down the road I think he can be a great player."

Shaun Pruitt decided that he was not going to red shirt and played against SIUE. Luther Head led Illinois with 17 points, while Roger Powell contributed 16 and James Augustine and Jack Ingram each added 10.
