Freshman Shaun Pruitt talks about Big Ten Hoops

The Illini's inside game could be the real key if they plan to do a little dancing in St. Louis come March. This Illini freshman is up for the challenge. Read here for my one-on-one interview with this talented freshman.

Kedric:
With the loft expectations for this team, I'm sure this can be overwhelming for you right now.

Shaun:
Oh, yeah. This is great, being a freshman. I'm new to all this but at the same time I don't have to do a lot because I'm on a team that's ranked #1 in the country. People know we can be really good; we aren't ranked #1 for no reason. We have a lot of good players. At this point I'm going to try and take my time and learn and get better.

Kedric:
How are you adjusting to the physical part of the game? In high school you could push your way around; here it's not so easy is it?

Shaun:
I think I'm doing okay. The real adjustment came in the summertime when I first got here. I got to come in and start to lift weights so that really helped. Now that the school year has started that helps make the adjustment a lot easier.

Kedric:
Shaun, Coach Weber jokingly said Nick Smith found someone that he could beat during practice, is it really that bad for you?

Shaun:
It was definitely a lot different than high school. I actually missed a couple (pre-season conditionings) in high school because I broke my foot and my ankle, but that was a big adjustment for me. I fought through all that and got it done.

Kedric:
How much playing time are you expecting as a freshman?

Shaun:
I know I have a lot of guys in front of me, so I know I will have to work hard to get minutes. People ranked our team this high because we do have a lot of good players.

Kedric:
Shaun, good luck this season and go get 'em.

Shaun:
Thank you and we plan to. We know what's at stake here.
