"Guard Calvin Brock Was a Steal"

#15 Calvin Brock

Head Coach Bruce Weber told us that he considers getting Calvin Brock from Simeon so late to be a steal. This guard is just loaded with athletic ability. He could keep the name "Flyin' Illini" around for a few more years.

Kedric:
What's been the toughest adjustment for you this year? Coach Weber said you recorded good times during conditioning.

Calvin:
The biggest adjustment is being on your own. In college it's a lot of discipline and you are expected to be more responsible. As far as the conditioning is concerned, it was hard. I just sucked it up and got it done and worked through it.

Kedric:
Calvin, you have a lot of guards ahead of you right now: Dee, Deron, Luther and Richard. However, I have to be honest with you. Coach Weber said he has high hopes for you this season. How do you feel about that?

Calvin:
I think he wants me to be patient in workouts. They do score on me but I'm still learning. Coach always tells me not to get frustrated; they have a couple years on me. Also, I'm glad coach feels that way about me.

Kedric:
Calvin, you could have gone to a number of schools. Why did you pick Illinois?

Calvin:
Yes, in the end I had all sorts of schools calling me, but I chose Illinois because I wanted to go to a school that has a chance to win and also get a great education. If I don't go on to a higher level of basketball, I will have a degree to fall back on so I can have a decent paying job to take care of my family.

Kedric:
Calvin, who is your college roommate this year?

Calvin:
Football player Bryant Creamer.

Kedric:
Since you are a freshman, do the older players treat you any different?

Calvin:
Yes, they treat me like my class doesn't matter. I'm just one of them but sometimes when we are out here hoopin', I might say something that's out of line and they are real quick to put me back in my "freshman" place.
