Tatum Talks Ten

The nation’s top prospect Chaminade (MO) 2016 small forward Jayson Tatum has cut his list to 10. The 6’7” wing talks his top 10 with us. Do the Illini make the first cut with the 5-star?

Elite small forward Jayson Tatum is probably the most heavily recruited 2016 prospect in the nation despite only being a rising junior. His ability to change the game in so many ways make him a huge asset at the next level and beyond.

Tatum is a big time scorer that can knock down jumpers with a free and easy release to go along with his ability to easily get past his man on the way to the rim. At the end of the day his best asset might be his passing with an incredible feel for finding teammates in the right spot.

Monday morning Tatum narrowed his list to a top 10 of Arizona, Duke, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, St. Louis, UConn, and Wake Forest.

No real shockers here except for the exclusion of Florida from the list. The Gators had landed the top two players to ever come out of Chaminade in Bradley Beal and David Lee. Most of these programs have been pursuing Tatum for over two years. He told us why he decided to narrow his search to these schools at this time.

“Biggest was where I can see myself and who stays in contact the most,” he said.

Tatum says he plans on taking some unofficial visits this fall to get to see up close the programs he hasn’t been to.

He said he wanted to see, “All the ones I haven’t got a chance to visit.”

Illinois and assistant coach Jamall Walker have a long standing relationship with Tatum and his family. The Big 10 program made the cut. Jayson says he keeps in regular contact with the Illini staff.

“I talk to them weekly and just want to keep building that,” Tatum said.

While most of Illini fans focus is on the 2015 class right now, Tatum would be a complete program changer for whatever program that lands him, including Illinois.
