Honor Roll: Jacksonville State Win

Check out the stars of Sinday's 86-62 win against Jacksonville State.

Player of the game: Joe Bertrand

Bertrand posted his first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds (four offensive). Active and aggressive, Bertrand attacked the rim and crashed the boards all game long.

"He was locked in and looked like a fifth-year senior should look," Coach John Groce said. "I was awful proud of Joe-Joe.

"He's practiced that way. He's been real consistent. I'm proud of how hard he played, how physical he was... He just wants to win, man. He just wants to win. He competed his tail off."

Three stars next in line:

Jaylon Tate

The freshman played a few notches above his experience and age level. He finished with 10 points, eight assists, two blocks and only one turnover.

"He did a great job of taking care of the ball and pushed the pace well," Groce said. "I thought he had a couple key transition lay-ups where he pushed the ball."

Rayvonte Rice

Stunted by foul trouble, Rice found a way to score 13 points in only 18 minutes of action. He attacked the basket from the jump, missing only three shots on the night.

Nnanna Egwu

The big man put his turnaround, fadeaway jumper to work, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Egwu had to play extra minutes due to foul trouble, recording a career high five blocks.

"I thought we could have gotten him the ball more," Groce said. "... But Nnanna just keeps on playing, keeps fighting on every possession. He's a fun kid to coach."
