Ayoola Dismissed for Violation of Team Rules

Rumors were confirmed Tuesday, running back Dami Ayoola is no longer with the Illinois football team.

CHAMPAIGN - Goodbye tweets from teammates provided fair warning -- Dami Ayoola is no longer on the Illinois football team.

Coach Tim Beckman announced the sophomore running back's dismissal Tuesday, days after Ayoola didn't dress out for the season opening win against Southern Illinois.

"We're in the process of dealing with a situation with Dami," Beckman said Monday.

The situation is no more, with a "violation of team rules," listed as the reason for the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native's early exit. He played in 11 games as a freshman in 2012, rushing for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.

"This year I just really focus on being mature as a player, taking my reps and making them count, not counting my reps," Ayoola said coming into this season.

The attrition shakes up the depth at the tailback position.

Redshirt freshman Devin Church has moved from wide receiver to the backfield, taking over for Ayoola as third in line. He rushed one time Saturday for nine yards. Redshirt freshman Lakeith Walls is also in the mix to claim the vacated spot.
