Alexander to Make 'Right Decision for Me'

Touching base with Illinois' No. 1 target -- five-star forward Cliff Alexander.

While Kansas and Illinois have long-since been considered the two favorites to land Cliff Alexander, the five-star center from Chicago insists he's not leaning in any direction at the present time.

And currently, his list of schools still in the running is longer than two.

"It's going good since I cut my list," Alexander said of his recruitment. "I added Florida to make it 10 schools. I am really open to everybody right now. I don't have a favorite and I don't know when I will have a favorite. I just want to make the right decision for me."

This summer the 6-foot-9, 230-pound standout competed at numerous tournaments around the country with his Mac Irvin Fire team. That included stops along the EYBL circuit and recently concluded with play in Las Vegas.

Alexander made a few recruiting visits, notably to Michigan State and Illinois, but said he's been focused on getting better as a player first.

"I have spent a lot of time in the gym, working 24/7 on my game," he said. "I really worked on that baseline jumper. My high school coach said that's what I needed to improve and I really worked hard on it, I think it's improved."

It's no secret Illinois coach John Groce and his staff covet Alexander.

"I have built a great relationship with coach Groce and they watched me a lot (in summer)," Alexander said.

Still, those hoping Alexander will stay home and suit up for the Illini will have to wait. Not even Alexander is sure when he'll announce his decision.

"It's going to be a tough decision. I'm not sure when I will be ready," he said.
