CHAMPAIGN - Three players will transfer from Illinois following the spring semester, moves made that have been rumored for months.
Mike Shaw, Devin Langford and Ibby Djimde will not return for the 2013-14 season, as confirmed by two sources to IlliniPlaybook.
The News-Gazette first reported the story.
The transfers free up scholarships that can be put to use either immediately in the form of a transfer or for the 2014 class. Illinois has targeted a handful of five-star prospects in the upcoming recruiting cycle, but until news of the transfers the staff had little in the way of room for any players to sign letters of intent in November.
That will no longer be a problem.
Langford played in 22 games last season, averaging over four minutes per. The 6-7, 200-pound native of Huntsville, Ala., redshirted last season and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Shaw, a sophomore forward from Chicago, saw time in 14 games, highlighted by 19 minutes, two points and three rebounds against Wisconsin in January. He didn't play in the team's final nine games.
A 6-8, 245-pound sophomore, Djimde played in 11 games, scoring two points.
At this point, it's unclear where any of the three intend to transfer to.
