CHAMPAIGN - Illinois received the 7-seed in the East Region and will play Colorado Friday, March 22 in Austin, Texas.
Entering Sunday, the Illini were projected as potential to be a 7-10 seed by numerous media pundits. The NCAA Selection Committee thought highly of John Groce's team, giving it a best-possible seed according to how their season played out.
Colorado (21-11, 10-8 Pac 12) finished fifth in the Pac-12 and lost to Arizona in it's opening game of the conference tournament.
The notable out-of-conference wins by the Buffalos were Baylor and Colorado State, a 9-seed in the tournament.
Kansas defeated Colorado 90-54 in early December. In total, the Buffaloes were 4-5 against teams that made the NCAA Tournament.
If Illinois were to win it's opening game, a potential matchup with ACC Champion Miami awaits in the round of 32.
