Michigan freshman forward Glenn Robinson III busted out of his slump Sunday, to the tune of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Wolverines win over Penn State. Now he hopes to keep it going.

A slump? Don’t tell Michigan freshman forward Glenn Robinson III his recent dive in productivity is the result of poor play. However phrased, Robinson III’s double-double (21 points and 10 rebounds) Sunday afternoon in a win over Penn State was a welcomed sight full of highlight reel alley-oops.

“I don’t know how many I had,” said Robinson III. “Five? I think the most I’ve had was four.”

Robinson’s personal dunk-a-thon in Michigan’s 79-71 victory Sunday had shades of his early season exploits, lifting the Wolverines – and a quieter than usual Crisler Center – to build enough energy and adrenaline to improve to 22-4 on the year, and 9-4 in Big Ten play.

“It definitely got me going,” said Robinson III. “I think my first points was that oop from Trey. And that got the place going, we started to play defense, and started getting our hands together to play more as a team I think.”

Robinson III’s first half production of eight points and four rebounds was his biggest statistical output since the Wolverines 74-72 win over Ohio State – a game Robinson III tallied 10 points and four boards. Though recent struggles during Michigan’s toughest stretch of games in the season may have discouraged some, Robinson III just kept pushing to get better.

Part of that involved shutting himself down on social media.

“I just completely ignored that,” said Robinson III. “Coach B is always stressing twitter, instagram and all of that stuff -- just to stay away from that for the next three weeks.”

“People are going to say what they got to say but I just try to clear that out of my mind and not think about any of that.”

Robinson III and Michigan now have a full week between games before a hot Illinois team heads to Ann Arbor Sunday. Though rest is needed, practice time will be paramount as Robinson III hopes to continue his aggressive play after earning 11 trips to the charity stripe against Penn State.

“The coaches are always telling me to be more aggressive and try to go to the foul line,” said Robinson III. “That’ll get you going more so that was something I was trying to do but -- it all just kind of came within the flow of the offense.”

Fab Five Flow

Several Wolverines took the floor against Penn State sporting a fresh haircut. Part of that, according to Robinson III, involved paying a little homage to the Fab Five – a group of individuals from Michigan’s past that wasn’t part of the weekend re-dedication ceremonies at Crisler Center.

“We all got bald fades and that’s something that the fab five did,” said Robinson III. “We all kind of just got them.

I believe it was Tim’s (idea). We knew it was kind of throwback night and we kind of wanted to do something different.”
