Garmon to Butte

Former Iowa running back Greg Garmon has enrolled at Butte College in Northern California. The Erie, PA native will play for the Road Runners in 2013.

After deciding that he didn't fit into Iowa's offense, Erie, PA running back Greg Garmon has transferred to Butte College, a junior college in Northern California.

"He is on campus and started school this past week," Butte Head Coach Jeff Jordan wrote in an email.

The Road Runners won the national championship in 2008 and gave Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers his college start.

Garmon played as a true freshman this past fall at Iowa. He rushed 38 times for 122 yards this fall. He also caught eight passes for 57 yards.

"It was great to be a Hawkeye," Greg Garmon said in December. "Best fans in the country. It just wasn't a fit for me."

Garmon's father, Tony Hollingsworth, said at the time that he wanted his son to stay at Iowa. He said that Greg and Hawkeye Coach Kirk Ferentz agreed that Iowa wasn't a good fit for him in the end.

"He choose this move to keep his grades up and not lose a year of football," Hollingsworth said in a text message about Garmon's transfer to Butte.

"He figured a (junior) college would fit him well while staying focused on his (school) work with less distraction from a major university atmosphere during the second semester there. He felt that iowa scheme was not his style of play so this was the best move for him." ranked Garmon as a four-star recruit and its No. 15 running back nationally in the 2012 recruiting class. He held an impressive group of scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Ohio State. Recommended Stories
