Niles Notre Dame has given some of the best teams in the state a scare this season, and despite those losses, they aren't a team to sleep on by any means.
With close losses to both Morgan Park and Benet Academy, Niles Notre Dame proved that they belong in the discussion among the state's best, and have shown the potential to be a threat when postseason play rolls around in the near future.
But what exactly is it that drives them?
First and foremost, the Dons are a team that can really do some damage from behind the arc. Led by senior guard Matt Mooney, Niles Notre Dame has multiple players who can shoot the ball from the cheap seats consistently.
But they aren't exclusively a team who lives and dies by the three. Just when things start to heat up from the outside, they are very effective at using dribble penetration to get to the hoop to either get the layup or draw a foul.
But it won't be a cakewalk for Notre Dame. St. Viator currently stands at 14-3 on the season.
Led by junior guard Ore Arogundade, who plays for the Illinois Wolves during the AAU season, St. Viator will look to rattle Notre Dame early and control the pace of the game.
One possible hangup for St. Viator could be a Friday matchup against Marian Catholic, led by lightning-quick guard Tyler Ulis. Will St. Viator have anything left in the tank for Saturday to pull the minor upset? Or will Notre Dame continue their strong play and carry their strong record into the postseason?
