Live Evaluation came from Lake Taylor – Phoebus game on 11-23-12
Scouting Report : Lake Taylor completely overwhelmed Phoebus 54-0 to win their first Eastern District title in 30 years and Holmes played a big role in his team's success.
The four-star prospect is a long, fluid athlete. The Lake Taylor defensive end/tight end made several big plays. He caught the ball well on offense and also impressed me with his blocking ability. Holmes' blocking contributed to several of his team's big runs. While he was good on offense, he is a more natural defensive player. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Holmes fired off the ball and did a good job using his hands to shed defenders. Once he is free from the offensive lineman, Holmes is very good in pursuit. He runs very well, does nice a job playing under control, and takes good angles to the football.
Overall, Holmes is just scratching the surface of his potential. His blend of size, speed, and athleticism are rarely seen at the high school level. Holmes must continue to get stronger, add weight, and work on his technique. However, he is a prospect that wants to improve and is very coachable. At the college level, I expect Holmes to take full advantage of the school's strength and conditioning program and high quality coaching. Look for him to become a star on Saturdays and someone that could ultimately play on Sundays.
