Syracuse lands Indiana native

The Syracuse Orange made a late run at Ron Patterson and snagged his commitment.

The Syracuse Orange picked up their fourth commitment in the 2013 class over the weekend when Indianapolis native Ron Patterson picked the school. Heading to the ACC next year, Syracuse is looking to load up in the 2013 class, and Patterson fills another role.

Growing up Patterson always admired the Syracuse program and especially Carmelo Anthony. The 6-foot-3 Patterson has long arms and big time athleticism, and now according to AAU coach Chris Hawkins.

"Ron committed to Syracuse," said Hawkins. "He committed before the end of the visit."

In the end the decision came down to Syracuse and Xavier, and Hawkins says that the entire Patterson family just felt comfortable on their visit to Upstate New York.

"I think when they got there the city reminded them of Indianapolis and the parents were comfortable with the area," said Hawkins.

He continued, "As far as what he was looking for with the playing time and situation and what they wanted to do was right as well."

After initially signing with Indiana as a member of the 2012 class, Patterson decided on going to prep school instead of picking a college and entering as a freshman upon the change from Indiana.

At the time Patterson figured there would be a lot of interest in his game, and Syracuse was exactly what he was looking for.

"When he made the choice to go up to Brewster he knew it would be a possibility that a school like this could come in, but I don't think he necessarily thought Syracuse would happen," said Hawkins. "Once the opportunity came he did his research and felt like it was the best for him."

This is the fourth commitment for Syracuse. Patterson joins five-star prospect Tyler Ennis and three-star pledges Chinonso Obokoh and B.J. Johnson. Recommended Stories
