Jesse Chadwell - Clarkston High - Clarkston, Mich.
Date Committed: 3/15/2012
Position: Offensive Tackle
Chadwell committed to Illinois at a time when a lot of the focus was
on the array of in-state offensive linemen. While Chadwell wasn’t a
prominent name on most fan radars at the time of his commitment, he
was a sign that Illinois had begun to recruit a different type of
linemen under Tim Beckman and Offensive Line Coach Luke Butkus.
What He Brings:
One of the most notable things about Chadwell is how well he moves his
feet. His athleticism will help him immensely in a zone-blocking
scheme. Also, it enables him to get to the second level and engage
linebackers. He is good at keeping his man in front of him on the
edge, but also has the ability to pull when necessary and keep up with
the play.
What Can Improve:
Chadwell is still a little undersized at this point, but as he enters
a college strength and conditioning program in college, he’ll be
molded into a more physical offensive lineman. In particular, he holds
his ground well, but he could finish more blocks and command his
opponent a little more.
What Is Unique:
Illinois hasn’t reached much into Michigan for offensive linemen in
the past. Interestingly enough, that didn’t deter Chadwell, who made
his commitment within 3 days of receiving his offer.
