Semaj Christon is a point guard who played last year at Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati. Next year, he will take his talents to prep power Brewster Academy. He has seen his stock rise with the Cincinnati Knights this spring, to the point where high majors including Illinois are showing interest.
"Xavier, Providence, Illinois, Georgetown, West Virginia, and UTEP," Christon lists as prime recruiting possibilities.
He shared a recent visit with Illinois head coach Bruce Weber.
"I talked to coach Weber Sunday. He said he likes seeing me play and wants me to get down there at the end of the month."
What else has the Illini coaching staff shared with you?
"They just talk about how they play, who they have coming back, and what position they would want me to play."
Christon likes the Illini.
"I like the coaching staff and their style of play. They are like an NBA style offense."
Several sources say Christon now has an Illini offer. He claims he doesn't have one yet. It is believed the offer may be contingent on him visiting Champaign and showing adequate high school transcripts to Illinois.
Christon says he has a top three and would like to make a decision between Illinois, Xavier and Providence before he leaves for Brewster Academy in August.
The 6'-2", 175 pounder's description of his abilities fits what the Illini seek.
"I am a true point guard that can score the ball. I try to get my teammates involved and am a leader on the court. I see a lot of things that others don't. I can see passes before they happen. My strengths are getting to the basket and defense."
Last year at Winton Woods he averaged 21 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds per game.
"The season went good. We went farther than we have ever gone before. I think I improved a lot since my 11th grade year, especially scoring the ball."
On the AAU circuit, Christon competes with the Cincinnati Knights and will be in action this weekend in St. Louis. InsideIllini will be tracking his progress.
